Thank you for believing in something better
When I started guilds.fyi, I had a simple mission. This is what I shared with everyone at the very beginning:
“Guilds.fyi is your future favourite Discord server list… designed to make finding and showcasing Discord communities easier and more exciting than ever! Whether you’re a server owner or a passionate member, guilds.fyi is for everyone. No server is too small or too niche!”
That was my genuine vision. A clean, positive platform where real communities could connect, grow, and be discovered. As a solo developer, I poured so much of my time, energy, and personal hope into trying to bring this to life. It meant a lot to me.
Unfortunately, despite repeated cleanups and ban waves, the platform drifted far from that original mission. Over the past month it became especially clear. Every day I would check the new listings and find around 15 servers promoting steroids and illegal pharmacies, content farms, hate communities that cyber-bully others, along with widespread spam and very low-quality submissions. For every one genuine community there were so many that went against what I believe in.
Many of you were with us when I shut down DiscoBump. In that message I wrote: "there’s no point running a bot I don’t believe in any more."
That same principle still holds true today. Since the day I started Syntax HQ there has always been a clear line when it comes to our mission and values. Continuing to run guilds.fyi would mean compromising on those core beliefs, and I cannot bring myself to do that.
All my focus has now moved to PinPal
The project that is truly helping real communities stay well organised and welcoming.
To all the long-time members and friends who have been here through the General Support days, the Guardian Bot List and Cloud era, the Disco bots like Bump and KV, and everything in between, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Those projects inspired me to keep building and I am so grateful we created them together.
To everyone who submitted good, genuine servers to guilds.fyi, thank you. I am truly sorry it did not work out the way we all hoped. Your support meant more than you know.
“You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”
At first I thought it was just a line from a movie. The more I reflect on it, the more I see how true it is for so many apps and services. They start with good intentions and slowly compromise their mission to chase growth or money. While I am sad to shut guilds.fyi down, I am also relieved that the values which started this studio remain strong. I will do my best to keep them that way moving forward.
Thank you for being part of this journey. It has meant a lot to me.
